Devotees of the progressive metal band Symphony X have been eagerly anticipating new music for nearly a decade. According to bassist Mike LePond, that wait is nearing it’s end.in a recent conversation with Rev. Tom Brice from Sportzwire Radio, LePond shared that the group is in the final stages of completing their long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s album, Underworld.
“We’re getting closer,” stated LePond. “The fans are definately eager for new material, and I wholly understand their excitement after such a long gap.If it were ten years since a new release from bands like Judas Priest, I’d be just as thrilled. We’ve been actively writing and have assembled manny components together.”
“Now it’s really just about recording it,” he continued. “So,it’s definitely on its way! if everything continues on this positive trajectory,we’re looking at a release next year, which has us all very excited. Trust me when I say that what we’ve created sounds incredibly cool, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it!”
Thematic Direction of the upcoming Album
When discussing the thematic elements of their forthcoming project, lepond indicated that it may serve as an overview of symphony X’s musical journey: “The narrative in our last album, underworld, showcased various styles inherent to our sound.”
“From what I’ve heard so far about this new record,” he added, “it seems poised to further encapsulate Symphony X’s evolution throughout our career regarding musical directions. There was indeed a phase where we embraced heavier sounds and adopted more straightforward compositions.”

“If we’re working on somthing that feels good but isn’t quite right yet, we won’t rush it out,” he explained further.
“We only want tracks on this album that we believe are remarkable and worthy of our fans’ attention.” He also noted external factors like COVID-19 disruptions and touring schedules complicating their creative process: “Once you start touring again, writing takes a backseat; then you return only to find you’ve lost your momentum.”
A Radiant Future Ahead for Symphony X
The band appears ready to enter the recording phase soon despite these delays.
Symphony X winds down their chapter with an upcoming North American tour before launching into fresh material creation. This tour features fellow metal actS Sonata Arctica, kicking off this september.. p>
