The legendary and iconic Ozzy Osbourne is set to be honored with the Lord Mayor’s Award in his birthplace of Birmingham this wednesday, December 3, coinciding with what would have been his 77th birthday.
This prestigious accolade will likely be awarded posthumously by the city’s Lord Mayor, Zafar Iqbal MBE, along with deputy Lord mayor Ken Wood.Members of the Osbourne family are expected to be present to accept this notable recognition.
In a heartfelt announcement shared on social media today, Iqbal paid tribute to the Prince of Darkness: “On December 3—Ozzy Osbourne‘s birthday—his family will receive the Lord mayor’s Award as a touching homage to his life and legacy. From Aston to global stages, Ozzy‘s influence on heavy metal is unparalleled, and he carried Birmingham in his heart throughout his journey. Long live Ozzy!”
The Lord Mayor’s Award celebrates “extraordinary achievements or notable contributions to the city and its residents.” Sadly, Osbourne passed away from a heart attack on July 22, 2025, after battling various health issues for years. Despite these challenges, he remained active right up until his passing.
