When Chloe Chua reflects on her musical journey, she highlights that Mozart’s Violin Concertos were composed by a teenager – so why shouldn’t a young violinist deliver them with excellence? At just 15 and 16 years old, Chua, who was a co-winner of the junior Menuhin Competition in 2018, recorded these remarkable performances. The structure of the concertos remains customary; there are no notable deviations in tempo. Accompanied by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Hans graf, her interpretations are both vibrant and sophisticated. while this may seem standard fare at first glance, Chua captivates listeners with her refreshingly timeless interpretations: they are balanced and insightful without appearing overly forced. The brisk movements possess an effortless momentum while the slower sections allow for ample space; every note she plays is characterized by clarity, precision in phrasing, and an understated charm.

Along with the five concertos included in this collection, listeners will also discover three standalone pieces—two rondos along with an adagio—and notably, the Sinfonia Concertante featuring violist Ziyu He. As another Menuhin Competition winner, He’s warm-toned lines blend seamlessly with Chua’s performance. While these renditions may not dramatically stand out amidst a plethora of recordings available today, they certainly merit your attention.
