A Rising Star in Drill Music: Cash Cobain’s Journey
While Cash Cobain may not be a household name yet, his presence on Cardi B’s highly anticipated album *AM I THE DRAMA?* has certainly sparked interest. On September 15th, he took to social media to address fans’ curiosity about his involvement after the tracklist was revealed.
“Who is Cash Cobain? Stay tuned for the next episode of ‘Breeze My Balls Z,'” he quipped on X. In another post dated September 16th, he remarked, “You might not know me yet; I don’t know you either, but Cardi knows who I am—that’s what matters.”
If you’re unfamiliar with him, it’s certainly worth noting that Cobain is a key innovator behind drill music—a genre that has seen contributions from artists like Drake and J. cole recently.
Cobain collaborated with Drake on “Calling For You” from *For All The Dogs*, while J. Cole featured alongside him in last year’s track “Grippy.” If those collaborations don’t ring a bell for you, fans might recognise his voice from Justin Bieber’s title track of *SWAG*, released this past July.
The Anticipation Builds Ahead of Album Release
Peculiarly enough, just before making an appearance on *AM I THE DRAMA?* set to release this Friday (September 19), some drama surrounded him online. Other artists joining forces with Cardi include established collaborators such as Megan Thee Stallion—who appears on “WAP”—as well as Summer Walker, Selena Gomez, Lizzo, and Kehlani. Notably absent collaborators Tyla and Janet Jackson are also featured despite never having worked with the “Bodak Yellow” star before.
Apart from singles like “Outside,” “imaginary Playerz,” and “Up,” Cardi hinted at including three relationship-themed tracks within her new project. During an interview with Kelly Rowland for Spotify she revealed one song titled “Man of your Dreams,” along with another called “Shower Tears,” which was recorded back in 2022.
Diving Deeper into Emotional Themes in Music
“There’s a line that goes ‘How are you texting girls from my bed? / All these tears I’ve shed during showers,’” shared Cardi about her emotional piece “Shower tears.” She added candidly about her experiences during its creation: “I cried so much.” The third song she confirmed is named “What’s Going On?” which promises to delve into similar themes of love and heartbreak.
