If Edward Gardner’s interpretations and recording of Peter Grimes had already solidified his reputation as a leading conductor of britten’s works, this latest series from his concerts with the London Philharmonic at the Royal Festival Hall in London and Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden further cements that status. The collection features one of Britten’s most celebrated orchestral pieces, the Sinfonia da Requiem, alongside a delightful suite (curated by Gardner) from Britten’s only full-length ballet, The Prince of the Pagodas.Additionally, it includes a premiere recording of Robin Holloway’s intriguing orchestration of Britten’s song cycle Winter Words.
