Anne-Sophie Command’s enduring dedication to contemporary tune is showcased in her courageous unique series on Alpha Classics. All four works were namely written for her, with the composers’ numerous heritages lending the album its title.

The programme opens with a six-minute solo by Iranian-Dutch composer Aftab Darvishi. Likoo – the title refers to a folks poetry genre rooted in the barren establish lifetime of Iran – is a sinuous lament, written ahead of the sizzling outbreak of battle nonetheless now unbearably poignant. It’s adopted by a 9-minute rollercoaster duo, Gran Cadenza, by Unsuk Chin, a South Korean composer dwelling in Berlin. Textures develop as Command is joined by Ye-Eun Choi, Muriel Razavi and Pablo Ferrández for Jörg Widmann’s refractive String Quartet No 6. Entitled Studie über Beethoven, the twenty first-century German iconoclast locations the tune of his revered predecessor during the wringer to coruscating, typically uproarious fabricate.
Eventually, Thomas Adès’s Air, for violin and orchestra, is recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra completed by the composer himself. Aptly subtitled Homage to Sibelius, Command chases a glacial thread of sound through unexcited orchestral textures that ranking in density at the same time as they spiral all the blueprint down to relaxation.
