A Perfect Circle is commemorating the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, Mer de noms, with two exclusive reissues that highlight both the band’s unique aesthetic and the pioneering sound that introduced them to the music world in 2000.
Scheduled for release on September 25 by Virgin Records/Ume, the first edition features an exquisite 2LP zoetrope vinyl. This innovative pressing includes four animated sequences—one for each side of the record. The stunning visuals showcase iconic symbols from the album, previously unseen photographs from sessions with the original lineup (Maynard James keenan, billy Howerdel, Josh Freese, Paz Lenchantin, and Troy Van leeuwen), imagery from David Fincher’s “Judith” music video, and captivating loops of A perfect Circle’s logo.
The second reissue will be available on October 10 as a One-Step Definitive Sound Sequence (DSS) pressing. Limited to only 3,000 hand-numbered copies, this audiophile-grade version was pressed at RTI and mastered by acclaimed engineer Levi Seltz (Metallica, Green Day) using high-resolution transfers from original analog flat masters at a remarkable 96kHz/24bit. This careful process guarantees extraordinary clarity and depth—perfect for highlighting timeless tracks such as “Judith,” “3 Libras,” and “Rose.”
The launch of Mer de Noms in May 2000 created significant buzz as it debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart—the highest debut ever recorded for a rock band at that time. The album’s combination of personal introspection and powerful intensity established A Perfect Circle as one of rock music’s most intriguing new voices during that period.
