The Gathering has officially announced the departure of their long-standing lead vocalist, silje Wergeland, who has represented the Dutch rock ensemble since 2009 until 2025.
Wergeland shared her decision on social media, reflecting on her time with the band: “This marks a pivotal moment as we step into a new chapter. After 16 years of crafting and performing extraordinary music with The Gathering, I believe it’s time for me to seek new adventures. I have treasured numerous experiences and created unforgettable memories during my journey with this band that will remain close to my heart.”

Wergeland joined The Gathering in 2009 following the departure of original singer Anneke van Giersbergen. She made her first appearance on the album the west pole, marking a transformative period for the group characterized by atmospheric rock blended with innovative elements and electronic influences.
This past year, in celebration of their legacy, The Gathering reunited with former member Anneke van Giersbergen , along with other classic lineup members, for a series of summer concerts honoring the 30th anniversary of their landmark album, Mandylion. The reunion commenced on August 27 at Doornroosje in Nijmegen, Netherlands—signifying a much-anticipated return to form for this cherished lineup.
