The acclaimed metalcore group Demon Hunter has officially revealed the upcoming release of their twelfth studio album, titled There Once Was A Light Here, which is scheduled too drop on September 12, 2025, via their independent label, weapons MFG. Building upon the emotional themes explored in their 2022 album Exile, this new work takes a deeply personal approach as a tribute to frontman Ryan Clark‘s late mother. The album reflects on profound themes of love and grief while exploring the dualities of light and shadow.
The pre-order for There Once Was A Light Here is currently available, offering fans CDs, limited-edition vinyl records, and cassettes exclusively through the band’s official store. This forthcoming release features twelve emotionally charged tracks that highlight Demon Hunter‘s signature intensity interspersed with moments of melodic softness. The production was managed by both Clark and guitarist Jeremiah Scott, with mixing and mastering conducted by renowned producer Zeuss, celebrated for his collaborations with artists such as Rob Zombie, Hatebreed ,andSuffocation . Notably, the title track was mixed by esteemed engineer Eric Stenman (known for his work with< strong >Deftones< / strong >,< strong >Thrice< / strong >,< strong >AWOLNATION< / strong >) .
Paving the way for this highly anticipated album are three singles already released: “I’m Done,” “Light Bends,” and “Sorrow Light The Way,” each accompanied by visually stunning music videos. The response from listeners has been overwhelmingly positive; “Sorrow Light The Way” even secured a spot in YouTube Music’s Top 50 Metal Videos shortly after its debut.
Demon Hunter burst onto the music scene in 2002 and has since played an instrumental role in defining modern metalcore. They have achieved nine entries on the Billboard 200 chart along with six Top 5 Hard Rock Albums and two number one Christian Albums. Their previous record Exile made an extraordinary debut at No. 3 on both Current Hard Music Albums and Christian Albums charts while also ranking No. 9 overall in U.S Album Sales statistics that year. With over 600,000 monthly listeners on platforms like YouTube alone,they remain a formidable presence within their genre.
This year will also see four exclusive tracks from Demon Hunter — “I Align,” “THE BRINK,” “Some Of Us,” and “Worlds Apart” — pressed onto vinyl specifically for collectors as part of Z2 Comics’ deluxe graphic novel edition related to their Exile four-part series.
