This week, it was reported that Yamal Acknowledged, the drummer for the band Lord Buffalo, has been detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the group was preparing to kick off their European tour.
The band shared their disappointment in a public statement, declaring, “We are heartbroken to inform you that we must cancel our upcoming European tour. Our drummer, Yamal acknowledged, who is a Mexican national and a lawful permanent resident of the United States (green card holder), was forcibly removed from our flight at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on May 12. He remains in custody, and we have been unable to establish contact with him.”
Since his detention on May 12th, there have been several updates regarding AcknowledgedS circumstances. It has been confirmed that he is now in touch with legal counsel; however, his detention does not seem to stem from any issues related to his immigration status or his identity as a Mexican citizen residing in the U.S. Instead, it appears there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him.
A Texas news source, KUT, reported that public records indicate Acknowledged had previously encountered legal troubles for violating a restraining order—at least twice over the past year—wich prompted local authorities in Texas to issue an arrest warrant for him.
the Daily Mail obtained bodycam footage showing Acknowledged being interrogated about these violations of the restraining order. During this encounter,he mentioned sending gifts for birthdays and Christmas to his daughter; this may have influenced perceptions of breaching the restraining order and later led to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
The daily Mail also noted that he is currently held with bail set at $40,000 in Tarrant County, Texas; however, this facts is pending verification from additional sources.
No further information has been released by either Lord Buffalo or Yamal acknowledged at this time due to requests made by Acknowledged’s legal team.
