To celebrate Brian eno’s 77th birthday, Lawrence Lui has unveiled a mesmerizing reinterpretation called “Fractal Zoom,” which reimagines Eno’s original work into an intriguingly novel experience.
This release not only honors the iconic musician’s special day but also highlights Lui’s distinctive artistic viewpoint.
In tribute to Brian Eno‘s influential role as a trailblazer in electronic music, Lawrence Lui presents his interpretation of the classic track “Fractal Zoom,” originally released in 1992.
Lui enhances the dissonant aspects of this piece from Eno’s eleventh studio album, Nerve Net.This release aligns with both AAPI Heritage month and the celebration of Eno reaching 77 years.
The soundscape crafted by Lui is layered with atmospheric elements that evoke sensations of vastness and restriction. Ethereal samples hover over gritty textures reminiscent of Japanese ambient composer Hiroshi Yoshimura’s intricate environmental soundscapes fused with Burial’s emotive depth. This combination pays homage to the original while exploring new sonic dimensions.
This cover also acts as a preview for Liu’s upcoming album. The artwork accompanying this release was designed by his teenage son, adding another dimension to their generational conversation and echoing Peter Saville’s renowned designs for Factory Records.
