Completed in 1906, The Kingdom used to be intended as the central panel in what Elgar had conceived as a Unusual Testament triptych, preceded by The Apostles, from three years earlier and to were followed by The Final Judgement, a rating that obtained no further than a few sketches. Elgar himself belief highly of The Kingdom, calling it “the supreme of me”, and even supposing it has under no circumstances executed the recognition of The Dream of Gerontius, some Elgarians bear agreed with him, claiming it as the supreme of his oratorios, with its orchestral writing particularly viewed as a long way superior.
